How to Make a Wellness Haven at Your Home

Your home should be a place where you feel joy, peace and refuge. Not every room in your house needs to be your favorite, but there should definitely be a place where you can come home to yourself in more ways than one.

After nearly two years of spending more time in my home than I ever had before in my entire life I believe having a wellness haven is essential. This does not mean you need to spend thousands on a home gym or home spa, it just means creating a space that can be your happy place. A place where you can honor your body and mind. A place that becomes your haven.

Here are a few ideas…

Pick an area that has lots of natural light. Several studies have shown that natural light can significantly improve mental health and can heighten the brain’s production of the mood enhancing chemical serotonin. Therefore, the more sunlight in a space the more serotonin.

More plants please. Plants give off oxygen and make you feel good. They haven been proven to improve your concentration and productivity as well as reduce stress levels. My favorite place to buy indoor plants is Rooted or from a local plant shop here in LA.

A comfy seat. Depending on what you’re using this space for a cozy chair or a plush meditation floor pillow would be ideal. You’ll want this to be your favorite place to sit in the house. A good seat can benefit your physical and mental health.

Soothing sounds. I believe sound machines really enhance rooms. We have a sound machine in all of our bedrooms and wellness space at our home. My favorite is the Hatch. You can put on whatever sound (and light) you need at the moment. It’s a sound machine that meets you where you’re at. What’s not to love about that?

After you’ve created your wellness haven, take some time for yourself and try a Moms on Holiday meditation.
